NY Frum Events has compiled the following list of Megillah Reading times in NYC 2008!
If you have more Megillah times that are not on this list, please submit them to nyfrumevents@yahoo.com (or if you are a member at nyfrumevents@yahoogroups.com) and they will be posted on this website and listed as an "update!" and color coded black! To become a member, scroll down to the bottom of the page and follow the links.
Current listings are located in the UES, Washington Heights, UWS, Midtown, Lower Manhattan, LES, Brooklyn, Queens, Passaic, and a link to KGH info.
Do you need info that's not listed here? Let us know how we can help. Have story to share with us, as a result of this list? We'd love to hear from you.
Some Seudah and Party information has been included for general reference. Please remember to double check times before attending, since times may be changed closer to the event.
We thank Hashem that so many minyanim exist in the NYC area, and hope that this year our happiness on Purim will be one that will bring true nachas to Hashem, and cleanse our neshamos on an even greater level than Yom Kippur does (which is likened to Purim, Yom Ki-Purim.)
May our acts of giving to each other, open up in each of us a greater love for others, and bring an achdus that brings us closer to Hashem and to moshiach. Remember to give mishloach manos to someone you might not especially like very much this year. You may be surprised at the outcome.
This list is dedicated in the loving memory of the boys who were killed (may their memories be blessed) at the Rav Kook school in Jerusalem. In some similar ways to Purim, as a community we are standing at a time of fear and pain. So many of us also feel disconnected from Hashem, each in individual ways in our lives. There is a powerful opportunity during this time for each of us to
search within and to call out to Hashem despite the darkness. When things look the darkest, we need to remember Hashem is with us. And waiting for our prayers. Let us join together in strength and call out to Hashem on Purim. Let us implore Him when the gates are open to help us as a generation to return to Him. Let us each take one extra step on Purim to open our hearts. Let us wear our Purim masks as a reminder that who we truly are lies within.
(Source for some of these thoughts a compilation of many classes and mephorshim.)
As a reminder, during Purim Shpiels, please be extra special careful not to speak lashon harah at this time. Remember, life and death are in the hands of our tongues. And we should seek out life! Use Purim to laugh and smile about building people up! I challenge you to use this Purim to bring a smile to someone's lips by telling them how much they mean to you, and showing your appreciation for them! Say the good things you always wished you had said to them but never did! Excercize: To prepare for Purim this year, make a list of one nice thing you like about 8 people you know. And then tell them what you like about them.
